Euro 2012: Serbia crash out

Inter's Dejan Stankovic has announced his retirement from international football with Serbia. "It's time for the kids."

The midfielder, 33, made his decision after the 1-0 loss to Slovenia last night which ended his side's hopes of Euro 2012 qualification.

"It was my last game for my country," he noted. "I was waiting for my farewell encounter and this was it.

"I've played in many matches, I've helped the team and I think now is the time to just think about Inter.

"There are younger players than me who need to start preparing for the World Cup campaign in Brazil.

"It's time for a generation change, it's time to leave some space for the kids."

The former Lazio” data-scaytid=”3″>Lazio player made his Serbia debut in April 1998 and ends his national stint with 15 goals in 102 games.

Manchester United's Nemanja Vidic, 29, has also decided to quit the Serbian national side.
