Inter striker Samuel Eto'o says he has apologised to his teammates after receiving a three-match ban for head-butting Chievo player Bostjan Cesar.

The Cameroon international, who is Inter's top scorer this season, is now unavailable in Serie A until the New Year, costing his side dearly in their hour of need.

In an official statement, Eto'o offered his "sincere apology to all the people who were shocked [by his actions].

In an official statement, Eto'o offered his "sincere apology to all the people who were shocked [by his actions].

"My apologies are directed at all the protagonists of that game and to the match officials who were not able to see the foul. But also to all Inter fans and lovers of football."

Eto'o's apology was also extended to "my Coach and my teammates who – for fault of my own – I leave for three games in Serie A."

His "final personal apology" was reserved for "President Moratti, who has always guaranteed me his faith."
