Samuel Eto’o almost signed for Roma in the summer of 2009 – just weeks before he left Barcelona for Inter.

The Cameroon international was targeted by the Giallorossi once it became clear that the Spanish giants were prepared to sell the striker.

“It was 5 July 2009,” agent Ernesto Bronzetti told the Corriere dello Sport. “Eto’o, his representative and myself all went to Bruno Conti’s house.

“The striker wanted to play for Roma, but the problem was his salary. He asked for €7.5m a season, but Roma said that such a wage would unbalance the dressing room.”

Less than a month later and Eto’o signed for the Nerazzurri in a swap deal which saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic move to the Nou Camp.

Eto’o won everything on offer with the Nerazzurri before he was sold last summer to Russian club Anzhi for a reported €25m.
