Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis sat on the bench for today’s friendly with Espanyol, but was so furious at tough tackling from the Spaniards that he went onto the pitch to protest with the referee.

This was the final pre-season friendly of the Castel di Sangro training camp and De Laurentiis broke with tradition by not only being in the stadium – something he has not done all summer – but also sitting on the bench next to coach Luciano Spalletti and director Cristiano Giuntoli.

It was hardly a ‘friendly’ game and a brawl broke out just before half-time between Victor Osimhen and Gomes, then Vinicius and Cabrera were booked for tough tackles on Andre-Zambo Anguissa and Hirving Lozano.

De Laurentiis was vocal in his complaints to the referee and assistant, demanding red cards for those fouls, and waited for the referee at half-time to take his protests up a notch.
