Former Lazio, Roma and England boss Sven Goran Eriksson could be about to take over the Iraq national team, according to reports.

The Swede is currently a free agent, having left his most recent role at Chinese club Shenzen last month.

And Sky Sports reports that the 70-year-old has held advanced discussions with the Iraqi FA in Istanbul.

It is hoped that a deal can be struck by next week, which would see Eriksson installed as boss in time for a friendly with Palestine on August 4.
