Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen began training with Odense in Denmark today, but his agent insists ‘it is not yet the moment to talk about football’ and continuing his career, which he cannot do in Italy due to the defibrillator.

The player resumed training with the ball for the first time since his cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark against Finland at UEFA EURO 2020 in June.

Following that incident, he received an implanted defibrillator that can restart his heart if it stops again.

Eriksen returns to training in Denmark

Current Serie A rules mean a player with this implant cannot be allowed to participate in professional football, so if Eriksen was to resume his career, it would not be with Inter.

“Like any person having experienced what Christian has, he is working on his recovery. He likes to do this in his own environment in Milano or when he is in Denmark, privately, in his country of birth,” agent Martin Schoots told Goal.com.

“Occasionally, when he is some time in Denmark and when he feels like it, he may use the structure of Odense BK. Which is a great gesture of his former club.

“Chris has a positive, optimistic and energetic character, but it is not yet the moment to talk about football. Only Christian will decide if and when this moment will come.”

It is a homecoming for Eriksen, who was in the Odense youth academy from 2005 to 2008, before launching his career at Ajax.

He joined Inter in January 2020 from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 29-year-old is under contract with the Serie A side until June 2024.
