Napoli are emerging as a very intriguing option, especially with Arkadiusz Milik and Dries Mertens expected to leave this summer.

“Aurelio De Laurentiis can have no regrets, because he always tried to sign Icardi,” said Elio Letterio Pino, legal consultant for Icardi and Wanda Nara, in an interview with Radio Marte.

“For one reason or another, Mauro didn’t want to remain in Italy last summer, so the President just had the wrong timing. Some might not like his tactical role within a certain system, but if you’re looking for a striker who scores goals, then Mauro always delivers.”

It seems increasingly unlikely that Paris Saint-Germain will pay the €70m to keep Icardi.

“Mauro did very well in Paris. It’s true that he didn’t play the last two Champions League games, but it’s a very strong squad and it’s understandable to be on the bench occasionally for Edinson Cavani. I’d always want to keep a 27-year-old with his goals average, then Leonardo will make his evaluations.”

If Icardi does return to Inter, could his future potentially be at Napoli?

“Obviously, Wanda Nara is his agent and she takes care of his interests. I know Mauro well, he’s like a son to me. The idea of joining Napoli has always been one he liked,” continued Letterio Pino.

“There was a little controversy in the past with Diego Maradona, but he knows the club’s history and Napoli is the city of his idol, the idol of all Argentines.

“Perhaps Napoli would’ve been the ideal club to light him up, so there’s absolutely nothing against this club.”
