Government minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan urged England fans not to travel to Rome amid Delta variant fears.

England will face Ukraine in the quarter-finals of UEFA Euro 2020 on Saturday in Rome.

However, the UK is on Italy’s red list for COVID and a mandatory five-day quarantine on travellers from the UK was imposed on June 18.

Government minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan warned England fans to “watch from home and cheer on the team as loudly as you can.”

“Obviously it is very difficult not to smile just to see all those wonderful flags waving, it just makes you so proud of our team doing so well last night,” she told Sky News.

“But really, the ask is to watch from home and to cheer on the team as loudly as you can.

The Football Association confirmed on Tuesday that it would not be selling tickets to the England Supporters Travel Club.

Therefore, English players will rely on residents in Italy who will have the chance to buy a ticket for the game, while those travelling from the UK will not be able to go to the stadium due to restrictions imposed by Italy.
