The former Liverpool and Juventus midfielder moved back to Germany this winter and has revealed why he chose to move away from the Allianz Stadium.

“I have always loved Borussia Dortmund, it’s the perfect club for me,” he told Kicker. “I wanted to go to a club where I could be important.

“I didn’t stay at Liverpool or Juventus because of my mentality. You can learn from a defeat but winning is much better. I hate losing.”

He revealed that Manchester United were one of the clubs interested but claimed he didn’t even “consider it” because of his past at Anfield.

“I had three offers from England, one of them was from Manchester United,” he told Kicker. “I didn’t consider it at all because of my past at Liverpool.

“Money is important, but not all.”
