Tests highlighted a lesion to the right thigh muscle and this will keep him on the sidelines for at least four weeks.
It means Maccarone will miss the start of the Serie A season.
He had been one of the scorers in that 2-0 friendly victory over Lucchese along with Manuel Pucciarelli.
