Empoli directors said they “won’t clip Maurizio Sarri’s wings” after reports Arrigo Sacchi recommended him to Milan.
The rumours linking Sarri to the Rossoneri bench are gathering pace with each passing hour and La Gazzetta dello Sport claims today that Sacchi himself suggested Sarri as his natural heir.
So far Milan have been targeting big names to replace Pippo Inzaghi, including Italy boss Antonio Conte and Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Montella.

However, 56-year-old Sarri would come from provincial newly-promoted Empoli, bringing with him very specific tactical organisation.
“If Milan should show interest in handing the reins to Sarri, then we certainly wouldn’t get in his way,” Empoli director of sport Marcello Carli told Calciomercato.com.
“When you love a little bird and it wants to fly, you don’t clip its wings. We just want people who are motivated and convinced they want to stay at Empoli.”
