The Nerazzurri look to rectify their appalling league form with a win as suggested by these Empoli vs. Inter predictions. The hosts have won just one of their last 11 games but took all three points in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

Empoli vs. Inter odds

1 – Inter to win– 4/7

2 – Under 2.5 goals scored – 10/11

3 – Inter to score a penalty – 10/3

4 – Romelu Lukaku to score – 6/4

5 – Inter to keep a clean sheet – 13/10

Inter travel to the Stadio Carlo Castellani on Sunday looking for their first Serie A win in six games. The shocking run for the Nerazzurri has seen them fall out of the top four but the visitors remain strong favourites to win against Empoli.

Following an uptake in form in the new year, the Azzurri have seen their results falter in the last few months, with their only win in three months coming against a struggling Lecce side. Paolo Zanetti’s side may not have the most difficult run in to end the season. But with just a nine points gap to the drop zone, they will certainly be looking over their shoulder.

But they will have a chance on Sunday, as they face an Inter side in their worst goalscoring form for years. Despite having four strikers available, none of them has managed to score from open play in their last five league games. A similarly poor attacking output can be expected on Sunday, meaning a bet on under 2.5 goals scored may pay off – as it has done in six of Inter’s last seven games.

That having been said, the visitors come up against one of few teams in even worse form than themselves. Empoli have just one clean sheet this calendar year, meaning the odds are in favour of the Nerazzurri to break the deadlock. Zanetti’s side have conceded five penalties this season and this could well be Inter’s best chance of scoring, with Romelu Lukaku relying heavily on spot kicks this season.

Fortunately for Simone Inzaghi’s side, there is unlikely to be significant threat from the opposition’s front line either. Empoli have scored just one goal in their last three games and have scored the joint third fewest in the league this season. Even with their poor form, the visitors should secure a vital result by keeping a clean sheet on Sunday.

Paolo Zanetti is likely to be without Koni De Winter who went off last week with an injury and Daniel Akpa. Liam Henderson may return to the squad, slotting into midfield ahead of Jacopo Fazzini, while Mattia Destro will hope to start up front.

Inter team news

Simone Inzaghi may look to rotate following Wednesday’s Champions League clash as Francesco Acerbi, Hakan Calhanoglu, Marcel Brozovic and Lautaro Matinez were all rested last weekend. Injury to Milan Skriniar and the potential absence of Stefan de Vrij may limit the coach’s defensive options on Sunday, however.
