Empoli released a statement thanking Roma fans for their “support” after a controversial Coppa Italia tie.
The Tuscans pushed the Round of 16 game to extra time, but were beaten 2-1 by an extremely contentious penalty.
“We thank all of the Roma fans for their support and good humour for our club, which represents a small section of Italian football, but makes principles and values its calling cards,” said President Fabrizio Corsi in a statement.

While Roma Coach Rudi Garcia refused to concede it should not have been a penalty, many Giallorossi supporters on social networks and even popular fan sites acknowledged the poor decision.
They also complimented Empoli on the overall performance.
