Newly-promoted Empoli have purchased Liam Henderson from Lecce and reportedly have Wolves striker Patrick Cutrone arriving on loan.

The Tuscans won the Serie B title last season and are rebuilding under new coach Aurelio Andreazzoli.

As expected, Scottish midfielder Henderson completed his transfer from Lecce for circa €1.5m.

However, the surprise today from Sky Sport Italia is that Cutrone is flying in for his medical.

It seems as if the former Milan, Fiorentina and Valencia centre-forward is returning to Serie A yet again on loan, this time for Empoli.

He had been linked with Sampdoria, but the negotiations with Empoli seemed to progress rapidly.

The 23-year-old was purchased from Milan for €18m in 2019, but never really settled at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

He’s had loans at Fiorentina and Valencia, without making much of an impact.

Cutrone received one senior Italy cap in 2018, but had been a regular at Under-21 level with 11 goals in 25 appearances for the Azzurrini.
