Empoli confirm they are ‘working on the details’ to sign Razvan Marin from Cagliari, while Mattia Destro arrives as a free agent.

The Tuscans are in their second consecutive Serie A campaign and will be starting anew under coach Paolo Zanetti.

They are reinforcing on the market and, having sent Kristjan Asllani to Inter on loan with obligation to buy for a total €14m, have found his replacement.

It is Romania international Marin, who is joining from relegated Cagliari at a cost of €6-7m.

“We are continuing the negotiations and trying to whittle down the final details,” confirmed director of sport Pietro Accardi to Sky Sport Italia.

“We are optimistic, the meeting went well and we are close to a deal with Cagliari.”

The 26-year-old has 41 senior caps for Romania and Cagliari still owe Ajax 10-15 per cent of the sell-on fee as part of the purchase.

He was initially on loan in 2020, then bought outright for €10m in the summer of 2021.

Meanwhile, Genoa striker Mattia Destro has signed for Empoli as a free agent.

The 31-year-old scored nine goals in 27 Serie A games last season.
