Empoli President Fabrizio Corsi reveals a ‘big Serie A club’ could sell their goalkeeper abroad, so they’ve sounded out Guglielmo Vicario’s availability.

Inter are believed to have contacted Corsi for information about the Italy international. Several sources in Italy have claimed that Vicario is the Nerazzurri’s primary transfer target if they sell André Onana to Chelsea or Manchester United.

The Blues seem ahead in the race for Onana and have already met Inter director Piero Ausilio to discuss Romelu Lukaku’s return to the Stadio Meazza in 2023-24.

“There are a few clubs interested [in Vicario], a couple from abroad and with one, talks are advanced,” Corsi told Lady Radio on Tuesday as quoted by Calciomercato.com.

“This morning, a big Serie A club called me. They said they could sell their goalkeeper abroad, so they’d be interested in Vicario. Friendship counts and this club have been interested for several months.”

Inter and Empoli have completed several deals over the last two seasons. Andrea Pinamonti joined the Tuscans on loan in 2021-22 and was followed by Martin Satriano in the summer of 2022.

“We are proud that important clubs have targeted Guglielmo,” continued Corsi.

“He is a special person, not only as a footballer. He returned from the national team yesterday and visited me to gift me an Italy shirt. He has the maturity of a 50-year-old person.”

Onana joined Inter on a free transfer from Ajax last summer and kept 19 clean sheets in 41 appearances in 2022-23. He was praised by Pep Guardiola before and after the Champions League Final between Manchester City and Inter on June 10.
