Empoli confirm Riccardo Marchizza is out for the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, while Samuele Ricci is close to joining Torino.

The Tuscans have impressed this term after winning the Serie B title along with promotion.

They will have to do without Marchizza for the next six months, as tests have confirmed a lesion to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

It was immediately clear he had badly hurt himself when falling awkwardly during the game with Roma at the weekend.

The 23-year-old right-back will have surgery tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Empoli are reportedly very close to selling Ricci to Torino in the January transfer window.

According to Tuttomercatoweb and Sportitalia, it will be an initial loan with obligation to buy at the end of the season.

Still only 20 years old, Ricci has already been involved in Roberto Mancini’s senior Italy squad, with nine Under-21 caps under his belt.

He scored one goal and provided one assist in 21 Serie A appearances for Empoli this season.
