Emerson Royal confirms ‘Milan is a reference point for us Brazilians’ and he wants to leave Tottenham, but agreeing a transfer fee for him and Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana is proving more difficult.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Fofana has practically worked out the personal terms for a five-year contract at San Siro and is hoping to make the move.

The 25-year-old is down to his final year of the current deal at AS Monaco and this is why his price-tag is €30m, although Milan are still confident they can get it lower than that.

Meanwhile, the negotiations for full-back Emerson Royal have been dragging on for weeks and seem no closer to a conclusion.

Emerson Royal wants Milan

That is starting to frustrate the Brazilian too, who expressed his thoughts in an interview with EPTV, an affiliate of Rede Globo.

“I’ve always made it clear. I’m very competitive and it bothers me a lot to be left on the bench. I was upset and I told the coach about it.

“I’ve always been very professional, put the most intensity into training, but this situation doesn’t work for me. I don’t know what my future will be. I am not a player who sits on the bench.

“I want to play, and if it’s not here, I understand that, but I want to go somewhere I can play. I want to play for the Brazil team and that is unlikely if I don’t play at club level, so I have to look for new places.”

When he was asked specifically about the interest from Milan, Emerson Royal did not hold back.

“It is very special, knowing that teams of this magnitude want me. Milan is a real reference point for us Brazilians. I don’t know what the future holds. I just hope I can get back to playing and getting into the national team.”
