Palermo’s 20-year-old new signing Emerson is “not afraid of Serie A,” assured the ex-Santos starlet.

The left-back only celebrated his 20th birthday last month and is on a one-season loan in Sicily.

“People say I am more mature than most 20-year-olds,” said Emerson in his presentation to the media.

“In tactical terms I also improved a great deal at Santos. I only started playing football as a professional at 17, but I am still 20 and I have time to improve.

“I am not afraid of Serie A, as this is a challenge that really intrigues me. My reference point in football terms is Alex Sandro, my former teammate who is now at Porto.

“I also spoke to Robinho and Felipe Anderson, who told me playing in Italy is marvellous.”

Meanwhile, Palermo have officially loaned Ignacio Lores Varela to Serie B side Vicenza.

The move was allowed outside the usual transfer window because Vicenza were only promoted to Serie B two weeks ago after a legal wrangle.
