John Elkann, the head of the Agnelli family, underlined his belief in Juventus’ new cycle under Massimiliano Allegri and noted that the loss to Paris Saint-Germain ‘encouraged’ him.

The Bianconeri have been going through somewhat of a transitional period following the initial departure of Allegri in June 2019 – the team have only won one Scudetto and one Coppa Italia since then and they’ve looked fairly poor in the Champions League as well. The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo also left a void, heralding in a new era with €80m man Dusan Vlahovic leading the line.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Elkann first highlighted his confidence that Juventus would become a winning team again soon.

“I’m more than confident, I’m convinced! Because Juve are going through a new cycle, as has happened many times in the now 100-year history that links my family to the Juventus shirt.

“In 2023 my family will celebrate 100 years together with Juventus, a world record. And it’s a strong bond that is passed on from generation to generation.

“After every cycle you have to have the patience to rebuild.”

He underlined his belief in coach Allegri, who has been blamed for the team’s uninspiring play this season.

“The team have changed a lot, but at the helm there is a coach like Allegri who knows the club well and the spirit of tenacity and concreteness that characterises the club.

“We have a competitive season ahead of us with a nice surprise like Atalanta, and a difficult Champions League with English football that is getting stronger and has taken the lion’s share of the market.

“Obviously, in these transitional phases we should start off on the right foot. What I regret is not yet being able to see Juve run with all the horsepower and power they would’ve had without the injuries.”

The head of the Agnelli family commented on the mid-week Champions League loss to PSG.

“Juventus took to the pitch without any fear against PSG. Apart from the first 20 minutes, they played on equal terms against one of the favourites to win the Champions League.

“I’m even more convinced and encouraged by the performance in Paris. Now we need maximum commitment, but also a bit of luck. And I think about the heavy injuries that punish us.”

Elkann discussed the mix in the squad between experienced winners and young talents.

“It’s called consistency. All cycles are born from a team that has a strong identity of Italian talents to grow alongside already established stars.

“Miretti, Fagioli and Gatti, for example, can grow alongside an experienced maestro like Di Maria who will make a great contribution to the team. It’s a path that Juve have always followed to reopen cycles.”

Finally, Elkann provided backing to his cousin and club president Andrea Agnelli.

“I have faith in the work my cousin Andrea Agnelli is doing to give football a future with commitment and passion. But I am also concerned about what is around football and professional sport in general.

“At the centre of the system should be the fans, the athletes, and the teams. Instead, there is a dangerous drift that benefits intermediaries, organisers and regulators who are putting the world of sport in trouble because they are motivated solely by money and power.”

THIS STATEMENT IS CORRECT 100%, i,m sure hz referring to football agents, uefa, etc, hence the Super League idea?

  2. Incredibly stupid to have won 9 scudetti in a row which will never be matched. If he’s stupid, what are the other team owners who can’t outsmart him? A question to you all: does one acquire a taste for lemons or are they always sour?

  3. CALMAAA!!!!

Guuump does not realise that CL success is still 5000 light years away.
