Lapo Elkann hit out at Khalifa Bin Hamad Al-Thani for the ‘disrespectful’ use of Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo’s image in a PSG shirt.

Elkann is a member of the Agnelli family that runs Juve, his brother being John Elkann and his cousin President Andrea Agnelli.

Al-Thani, a member of the family that owns Paris Saint-Germain and who confirmed the Lionel Messi move earlier this summer, posted an image of Ronaldo and Messi standing side-by-side in PSG kits.

He added the word ‘Maybe?’ in three different languages.

“CR7 is a player of Juventus F.C.” wrote Elkann on Twitter in response.

“It is disrespectful to continue putting other jerseys on him as if he were a figurine. If he changes team, wherever he goes, he will have respect as both a man and an athlete.

“You see, as a Gentleman said, football is a passion for us. For generations.”

Ronaldo’s contract with the Bianconeri is due to expire at the end of the season and reports have escalated over the last few days that he is pushing hard for an early exit.

Max Allegri also left CR7 on the bench initially for the opening Serie A fixture against Udinese, a 2-2 draw on Sunday.

L’Equipe claims this evening that Ronaldo is trying to engineer a move to Manchester City, perhaps in exchange for Bernardo Silva or Aymeric Laporte, while Paris Saint-Germain are the only other realistic options.

Notably, in his response to rumours about a Real Madrid return, the Ballon d’Or winner did not mention Juventus at any point, only stating his story with Madrid had been written.

  1. Let it happen then PSG will be close to bankruptcy like Barcelona. Wage bill higher than the actual income. It can’t be run from someone’s own bank account forever ?!

  2. if they want him, they can have him. Make them pay the price and get Hooland. Since cr7 joined we score less goals every season

  3. “You see, as a Gentleman said, football is a passion for us. For generations.” This is the soul of the tweet – a dig like no oil well ever been dug

  4. If Ronaldo really wants to leave .. exchange him with Donnarumma and get Belotti( he’ll get better serviceat Juve than at Torino and score a lot .. also is very hard working team player) for now .. try Haaland next season ….

  5. EDIT PREVIOUS POST: If Ronaldo really wants to leave and goes to PSG .. exchange him with Keylor Navas + Cash (sadly Donnarumma is lost cause) and get Belotti (he’ll get better service at Juve than at Torino and score a lot .. and is very hard working team player) for now .. try Haaland next season …..
