Stephan El Shaarawy has thanked Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri for believing in his qualities after a goal-packed start to the season.

The 20-year-old has already netted 16 this term in games for Milan, the Italian Under-21 side and the full Azzurri set-up.

“I didn’t start the season well,” the former Genoa man told La Repubblica. “However, Allegri still showed great faith in me and that was very important.

“Allegri asks me to perform well, he doesn’t ask me for goals. Helping the side defend is a sacrifice that is eventually repaid and it’s no coincidence that the goals have arrived.

“It’s very satisfying to have scored 16 goals by November and I just want to do well for Milan. This is a fantastic period for me, but I have to continue on this road.”

El Shaarawy has won rave reviews this season and the approval of President Silvio Berlusconi, even if the owner has asked the boy to cut his hair.

“He told me that I can keep my haircut if I keep scoring,” the forward added. “Anyhow, all I’m thinking about now is the game against Juventus.”
