Stephan El Shaarawy is ready to sign a new contract with Roma, reportedly agreeing to lower his wages in order to push through a deal.

The 30-year-old Italian winger returned to the Italian capital in January 2021, joining on a free transfer after an 18-month spell with Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua.

Since his return, El Shaarawy has proven himself a useful member of Jose Mourinho’s squad in Rome and helped the side win the Europa Conference League last season. This campaign, he netted nine goals and provided four assists in 42 games across all competitions.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport via TMW, El Shaarawy is close to signing a new three-year contract with Roma, avoiding the prospect of leaving when his current deal expires at the end of this month.

The 30-year-old does not want to leave Mourinho’s squad and agreed to lower his current €3.5m net per season salary in order to find an agreement.
