The winger was a key man for the Giallorossi in the second half of last season, but so far this campaign he’s completed 90 minutes just once, against Crotone.
“In terms of feeling and fitness it’s very positive,” El Shaarawy told journalists in the Press conference ahead of the Europa League tie with Austria Vienna.

“At the start the boss [Luciano Spalletti] has made other choices, but at this level it’s normal that there will be competition and I’m calm.
“I’m training well and continuing to show what I can do and win a starting spot. I need to be more effective when in the opponents’ last third.
“Then I also need to improve my left foot.
“I think for any player confidence and consistency is crucial. It’s clear that it can be difficult to come into a match which is already underway, but the boss’ choices should be respected.
“The important thing for me is to be engaged, train well and give the Coach a headache.
“Even now the boss is happy with the way I’ve come in, and tomorrow I hope I can take my opportunity.”
The Lupi have had a mixed start to the season, but the last two Serie A matches saw them beat Napoli and Inter.
“I’ve always been aware of our strength, but we’ve lacked consistency, both now and in the past.
“Last year we had it and we had some great achievements, but we need to have consistency this year too. Getting six points off Inter and Napoli isn’t something everyone can do, so it’s clear we have the talent.
“We’re a great squad, and it all depends on how we approach the game, because in terms of quality we can compete with anyone.
“Getting three goals at Napoli isn’t a random coincidence, we showed great personality, played well and good have got a few more goals.
“We lack consistency, but we’re on the right track. Spalletti is a great Coach and we can only do well with him.”
