Shanghai Shenhua star Stephan El Shaarawy has admitted he was close to re-joining Roma this winter to secure a place in Italy’s Euro 2020 squad.
The 27-year-old has claimed he was on the brink of returning to the Italian capital in January after the coronavirus pandemic first broke in China.
“When coronavirus broke out in China, I was one step away from returning to Roma,” he told Fabio Cannavaro on Instagram Live. “At that point, I spoke with the Chinese club and explained I had to find a solution to earn a call to Euro 2020.
