And the Milan striker, who spent the 2010-11 season on loan there, has insisted that they will be back.

“I’m really sorry and saddened by what’s happened at Padova,” he posted on his official Instagram profile.

“It was my first real experience as a professional there. I had some beautiful moments with you – we suffered, but we dreamed as well.

“It was a truly unique experience that made me grow, and allowed me to get where I am today.

“THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!

“104 years of history cannot be erased. Best wishes to everyone. Never give up!”
