Stephan El Shaarawy revealed Antonio Conte’s instructions after a fine performance in Italy’s 1-0 win over Bulgaria.
The Little Pharaoh wasn’t even on the bench against Malta on Thursday, but started tonight at the Stadio Barbera in Palermo.
“It was a great performance and we created a lot, unlike the most recent match against Malta, but it’s a shame only one shot went in from a penalty,” he told Rai Sport.

“The Coach told me to receive the ball and run at defenders, then combine with Antonio Candreva. I didn’t score, but I am happy with both my performance and that of the team.”
This was El Shaarawy’s first Italy cap since leaving Milan for Monaco.
“I am happy in Monaco. The club is very ambitious. We didn’t get off to a great start, but this is a very strong squad and we can do well.”
