The Italy international has returned to Serie A after an experience in China and said he knows he must work hard ‘to get back in shape’ but has ‘a great desire’ to do well in his second stint with La Lupa.

In recent weeks reports of a broken rapport between coach Paulo Fonseca and captain Edin Dzeko led to rumours of a move to Inter but El Shaarawy said the Bosnian will be ‘important’ for the Giallorossi.

“I saw Dzeko very serene,” he said at a press conference. “I was happy to have seen him again, with a smile on his face.

“There’s a serene atmosphere. We all know Edin’s qualities. He has a great personality, he will find out by himself the way to become important again for this Roma.”
