The Rossoneri had won the first leg of this Europa League play-off 6-0 at San Siro, so took the opportunity to experiment a new 3-5-2 formation with Leonardo Bonucci at the heart of the defence.

Teenage hitman Cutrone has been a revelation so far this season and, after forcing a goal-line clearance when he robbed defenders at the by-line, he opened the scoring in Skopje.

Cutrone controlled a splendid Manuel Locatelli chipped pass over the top and cut back to commit his marker before firing in from a tight angle.

Marjan Radeski’s diving header flew over the bar, but Andre Silva’s screamer from distance forced a flying one-handed save.

After the restart, Besart Ibraimi failed to make the most of a Luca Antonelli error, flashing his finish across the face of goal, and Marco Storari had to parry from Alimi following another poor clearance.

Midfield teen Niccolo Zanellato drilled wide after a give-and-go with Davide Calabria, but Storari had to beat away two ferocious Armend Alimi efforts from distance in quick succession.

The draw for the Europa League group phase is tomorrow and Milan will be among the top seeds.
