Domenico Berardi’s penalty proved the only goal, although the Neroverdi were dominant in Sicily.

“We started on the right foot, just as I had asked my lads,” the Coach told Rai Sport.

“I particularly liked the initial approach to this game, as we were excellent at controlling it. I am happy for Luca Mazzitelli and Stefano Sensi on their Serie A debuts, especially as Sensi is playing somewhat out of position at the moment and responding well.”

Sassuolo patron Giorgio Squinzi said this week that he wanted an extra eight points, as that would qualify them for the Champions League rather than the Europa League.

“The President is ambitious, but also fully aware we are facing sides who invested heavily and are far more prestigious than us.

“Having said that, we like to dream and fight it out with everyone, just as our patron wants.”
