Eusebio Di Francesco is glad Sassuolo “played on a par with Napoli, but we should’ve believed in ourselves more.”

The Neroverdi took the lead with a penalty after three minutes, but were eventually beaten 3-1 at the San Paolo.

“The lads should’ve believed in themselves a little more tonight,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“In the first half we played on a par with Napoli, if not better, and didn’t deserve to go into the break 2-1 down. They did well to make the most of their chances, whereas we lacked conviction in front of goal.

“Nonetheless, I am pleased with the performance. We did not miss Domenico Berardi, he was well replaced by Matteo Politano.

“Napoli are packed with world class players, yet we played on a par with them in this extraordinary atmosphere. I told my players not to give up, as I was convinced we could’ve got a point at the end.”

The Partenopei remain top of the table and have lost only two games in all competition this season, one of them the opener with Sassuolo.

“Napoli are proving they can make a Scudetto push, but in recent games they had been more dominant than they were tonight.”
