EDF: Qualification ‘crucial’ for Roma

Eusebio Di Francesco confesses reaching the Champions League quarter-finals is ‘crucial’ for Roma ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Shakhtar Donetsk.

Roma lost 2-1 in the first leg of their last-16 with Shakhtar, and Di Francesco challenged his side to restore their ‘momentum’ at the Olimpico.

“We have a single objective, which runs through the collective, even if someone like Dzeko can be decisive,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“We haven’t had much consistency throughout 90 minutes, but I hope everything we’ve gone through can lead us to making no mistakes.

“If we were Napoli, we’d be well on our way. We have a good team in front of us, but we can’t be happy about just going through.

“We made too many mistakes defensively in the first leg and can’t afford to make them again, even if we have to be a bit carefree.

“We must win and therefore can’t just sit on the fence. Qualifying is crucial for us to restore momentum, not only for us but also the club.

“I hope we have a 12th man on the pitch tomorrow. Roma aren’t used to games of this calibre, but I still hope to do something important with these lads.

“Quantity counts, as well as the quality.”
