The Sardinians are involved in the relegation race with 14 points in 19 games, but the President Tommaso Giulini has revealed the club extended their contract with their coach earlier this week.

“I am sorry I couldn’t repay their trust today,” Di Francesco told Sky Sport.

“I’m proud I was judged for my competences and my professionalism, but this does not justify our results, I hope I can repay their trust," he added.

“We didn’t do well in the first 15 minutes, we conceded an early goal, but we created many opportunities to level the game.

“We still need to improve, the 4-2-3-1 is the best system for our players right now, I believe it’s the best solution and it’s proved by the opportunities we created.

“Today we must talk about results, we are missing something, especially on a psychological level.”

Cagliari have signed Radja Nainggolan and Alfred Duncan in January. Does he expect something else in the January window?

“I like to play with two strikers, but Pavoletti is not always fit, this week he’s had problems at his back, today he wasn’t 100%.

“We’ll see what will happen in the last days of the January transfer window, if nobody leaves I’ll manage the three strikers I have.”
