Eusebio Di Francesco admits playing in the Europa League is sapping energy from his Sassuolo players.
Following Sunday’s defeat to Atalanta, the Neroverdi have now lost their last three Serie A matches, while they have also been the victims of an injury crisis.
“So many situations are not helping us, as well as a lot of absences,” Di Francesco lamented when asked to explain his team’s latest defeat. “For the umpteenth time we conceded an offside goal.

“It’s a shame that decisive things have often been things that have had nothing to do with the opposition’s strengths.
“When it happens that you are missing so many players it is costly. The fact we are playing in Europe is taking energy from us.
“I couldn’t change much from the European game because we didn’t have many replacements.”
The Sassuolo boss also denied speaking out of turn to officials despite being sent to the stands during Sunday’s loss.
“I didn’t offend anyone, I just asked for explanations. It’s a period in which everything is going against us.”
