“I still need to decide on the starting XI,” said the coach in his press conference after a 3-2 thriller with Torino.
“It amuses me that people used to complain about my approach of always wanting to out-score the opposition rather than defend, of being too much like Zdenek Zeman, but I see it’s very fashionable in Serie A now!
“Besides, when I reached Europe with Sassuolo, we had one of the best defensive records in the league. I always did believe in the value of the Italian defence.
“In any case, I feel that we coaches also need to analyse performances more carefully rather than just in terms of goals scored and conceded.”
The Cagliari defence is bolstered by news Godin is available to start this weekend.
“He trained consistently today as well and gave a strong response, so we’ll decide together tomorrow on how he’ll be used. Great team performances come from a great defensive organisation. We have to improve, but I am happy with what the lads are doing.”
