The Nerazzurri continue their quest to qualify for next season’s Champions League in today’s early kick-off at Marassi.

And speaking pre-match, the forward acknowledged the importance of getting a positive result against his former club.

“We have to get a result if we want to get into the Champions League and we know Samp play good football, so we have to give more than 100 per cent to bring home a victory. We’ve got what it takes to achieve that,” the ex-Blucerchiati forward told Mediaset Premium.

“It’s nice to come back here and it still feels like home, as I spent four years at Marassi. The Samp fans always gave me so much affection.”

The 31-year-old was asked about his failure to win a call up to Luigi Di Biagio’s Italy squad for the forthcoming international friendlies with Argentina and England.

“When it comes to the Italy squad, Di Biagio called the players in the best shape and who were most suited to his game plan, so I have no regrets and wish the Azzurri all the best in the upcoming friendlies.”
