The agent of Sampdoria forward Eder has slammed ‘unnecessary’ controversy surrounding his client’s Italy call-up.

Brazilian by birth, the striker has been called-up by Antonio Conte for the matches against Bulgaria and England, along with Argentinian-born Franco Vazquez.

The decision has attracted criticism from Inter Coach Roberto Mancini, but Eugenio Ascari says there’s no need for the controversy.

“I think it’s an unnecessary controversy,” the agent told Tuttomercatoweb.

The decision has attracted criticism from Inter Coach Roberto Mancini, but Eugenio Ascari says there’s no need for the controversy.

“I think it’s an unnecessary controversy,” the agent told Tuttomercatoweb.

“Eder and Vazquez have been called, just as [Mauro] Camoranesi, a World Cup winner in 2006, [Dani] Osvaldo and [Jose] Altafini in the 70s were before them.

“Over the past decade the CT has cast his net everywhere, that’s globalisation. Look at Germany for example, their squad is filled with player of foreign origin.

“In Italy we’re having a controversy about two oriundo players: Eder has Venetian roots, as does Vazquez.”
