The 21-year-old only signed a new contract last August when he put pen to paper on a deal which runs until 2018.
However, according to Sky Sport Italia, the former Pescara man will extend that agreement for a further year in exchange for an annual salary of around €4m.
Verratti has one goal in eight appearances for his country and was one of the few Azzurri players to leave Brazil 2014 with their reputation enhanced.
