Edin Dzeko believes Inter’s comeback victory against Fiorentina was the sign of a ‘great team’ and jokes that he narrowly avoided substitution before his goal.

The Viola dominated the first half and took the lead through Riccardo Sottil, but Matteo Darmian and Dzeko turned it around before a late Ivan Perisic strike.

Curiously, Alexis Sanchez and Denzel Dumfries were standing on the touchline waiting to replace those two players just before the goals were scored.

“I will ask the coach later if he saw something and decided to change his mind!” Dzeko grinned on DAZN.

What did Simon Inzaghi say at half-time that prompted such a complete transformation of fortunes from the first 45 minutes?

“This victory is one of a great team, because we are a great team. We suffered a lot in the first half and fortunately it was only 1-0, as Fiorentina had a wonderful first half. They fell away a little after the break, but we were more complete as a team and scored those two goals to turn the game around.”

Some had doubted whether Dzeko could work together with Lautaro Martinez, but the partnership is proving fruitful for Inter.

“Talented players can always work together. I am happy to be there with these great champions, we won as a great team today and I hope we will do it many times this season,” concluded the former Roma striker.
