Er Pupone played his final match for the Giallorossi against Genoa at the end of last season, having spent his entire career with the same club.

“We had to win to get second and go to the Champions League,” Dzeko recalled, speaking to Roma TV.

“We conceded a goal after 15 minutes and then we made it 1-1. We missed a few chances in the first half, then we started getting a bit nervous in the second.

“Then we made it 2-1 and I thought it was done for us, but we conceded another goal. Luckily [Diego] Perotti scored and that made it easier to celebrate Totti.

“All the fans were happy for the win, but also sad to say goodbye to the best player Roma ever had. I’m glad I got to play with him.

“I said it last year too, it’s a shame I didn’t get to play with him before, when he was younger, because I’d have scored even more goals with him.

“I was happy to play with him for two years, and sooner or later everyone has to finish their career, but it’s not easy.

“I don’t even want to think about when I’ll finish, the first year after that must be really hard.”
