Leonardo Bonucci is ready to sign for Fenerbahce and reports in Italy suggest former Inter and Roma striker Edin Dzeko played a key role in persuading the Italy international to move to Turkey.
Bonucci is on the verge of joining Fenerbahce on a free transfer from Union Berlin despite reports of a possible move to Genoa who are finalising Radu Dragusin’s sale to Tottenham Hotspur.
Calciomercato.com claims Dzeko played a key role in the negotiation as he personally called Bonucci to convince him to join the club. Dzeko and Bonucci share the same agent, the Italian Alessandro Lucci who was also involved in the call.
According to the report, Bonucci is expected to land in Istanbul on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, to undergo his medical with the Turkish giants and sign a six-month contract worth €2.8m.
Sportmediaset reporter Marco Barzagli has confirmed on X, formerly Twitter, that Bonucci will sign for Fenerbahce.
Bonucci, 36, scored one goal in 10 appearances with Union Berlin in the first part of 2023-24.
