Edin Dzeko was clear about Inter’s ambitions and their hunger ahead of their Champions League semi-final clash with Milan.
The Nerazzurri will be feeling confident of their chances in their European Derby della Madonnina after flying to a thrilling 6-0 win over Hellas Verona, giving them a key boost in momentum only a week before the match.
Intercity rivals Milan are in a comparatively tougher moment, having drawn their last two league outings against Cremonese and Roma.
Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Dzeko first reacted to Inter’s 6-0 win over Hellas Verona and spoke about his brace.
“Obviously I missed it (scoring, ed.), but I have already scored my most important goals, it’s not that I suffer when I don’t score.
“For sure it’s important for a striker, but I don’t look at stats. The important thing is to go to the Champions League final, qualify for the Champions League with Inter and win the Coppa Italia.”
He was then asked if Inter felt stronger than Milan after overtaking them in the league table. The two teams will face each other in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals next week.
“Milan are a strong team, they are not in the semi-finals of the Champions League by accident. But we believe in ourselves, we know we have many strong players.
“Maybe every now and then we lose awareness, and we lose games that we cannot lose, but we must never look back. Today is an important win, the next ones will be even more so.”
Inter sit fourth in the Serie A table with 60 points, only two ahead of Atalanta and Milan. With five games left to play, the top four race is still wide open and getting increasingly tense.
