Edin Dzeko feels Inter ‘leave with heads held high’ after the 2-0 home defeat to Liverpool, as they showed they can compete at this level of the Champions League.
The Nerazzurri dominated for long periods at San Siro and rattled the frame of the goal with Hakan Calhanoglu, but couldn’t make the chances count, a problem they have suffered from repeatedly in the Champions League so far this season.
Champions League | Inter 0-2 Liverpool: Clinical finishing the difference
Instead, the Reds were clinical, scoring with their only two shots on target from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, giving them a 2-0 away win.
“The only thing we lacked was winning the game. We played so well for 65 minutes, had chances and allowed nothing to one of the best teams in Europe,” Dzeko told Amazon Prime Italia.
“It is a pity to concede from a corner, where usually we are strong. This is the problem against great sides, if you don’t take your chances, they will punish you eventually.
“We tried everything, everyone gave their all for 90 minutes. It was not enough. We leave this defeat with heads held high, because we know that we gave everything.”
The second leg is at Anfield and away goals no longer count double on aggregate in the knockout rounds.
“We will try to the end. It is certainly not a positive result, but we must first concentrate on Serie A and then see.”

Keep holding your heads high out of the UCL.
A disgrace to Italian football.
You can add Juve to that bracket as well then as they have been disgracing themselves in Europe since 1996 and will continue to do so to at least 3096.
Heads up high – insult to Inter fans even at your best you cannot win at home. Keep dreaming.
As long as Italian teams feel they’ve done well after losing at home they will never achieve anything in Europe. I mean, Liverpool never even got out of first gear and they won easily at San Siro. But it is to be expected given the higher resources EPL teams have.
