Edin Dzeko joked about his age and contract status at Inter after being named Man of the Match in the Supercoppa Italiana against Milan. ‘We came out fighting from the start.’

The Nerazzurri dominated the Supercoppa Italiana in Riyadh with two early goals from Federico Dimarco and Edin Dzeko, then Lautaro Martinez made it stick with a late strike to kill Milan’s hopes off.

“We certainly put in a great performance, the lads were splendid from the first to the last minute. We really did give everything we had,” Dzeko told Sport Mediaset.

The Bosnian was asked if this felt like revenge for Inter, who had lost the Scudetto in a battle with Milan last year.

“There was no need for revenge, I and the team always look forward. This was a Cup we also won last season, we know how wonderful it is to win it, we came out fighting today from the start.”

Dzeko said that he left Roma for Inter in order to win silverware and this was his third trophy after the Coppa Italia and last season’s Supercoppa.

“This is why we are here. I am very happy we are taking another trophy home and hope there will be more in future.”

Dzeko will celebrate his 37th birthday in March and his contract is due to expire in June, so does this mean a new deal is in the offing?

“I will be 22 years old soon,” he laughed.

“We are happy for the fans and for us, as we deserved it tonight. Let us celebrate tonight and then we can think about the rest.”
