Roma striker Edin Dzeko admits his dream growing up “was to play for Milan”, and that he came close to joining them in 2009.

The Bosnian has spent the past three seasons in Serie A, winning the Capocannoniere crown in the 2016-17 season, but he could have been in Italy far sooner.

“When I was playing for Željezničar, my dream was to play for Milan,” Dzeko told Face TV.

“After winning the title with Wolfsburg I was very close to Milan, but the Germans didn’t want to let me go.

“Luckily my career went well and now I’m very happy at Roma.”

Dzeko was also close to Chelsea in January…

“After being at Manchester City I wasn’t ready to move to Chelsea, so I decided to stay at Roma. It was a very complicated period where there were a lot of false things brought up.

“So many things were going through my head and I wasn’t really sure what was happening.

“My future? Now I just want to play these two games for the Bosnian national team and then we’ll see what happens.

“I still have two years on my contract, so you’d have to ask Roma too.”
