Dzeko: ‘Feels like I’ve been at Inter for years’

Edin Dzeko feels like he’s ‘been at Inter for years’ after scoring on his debut and always knew Simone Inzaghi ‘would be perfect’ for his style of football.

The centre-forward moved from Roma essentially for free, with under €2m in bonuses payable if the Nerazzurri qualify for the Champions League.

He made the perfect impact, scoring in a 4-0 Serie A victory over Genoa at San Siro.

“It was an emotional day, especially as it was the first game with fans back in the stadium,” Dzeko told Inter TV.

“My mother was at San Siro too. It was an important day, ending with our victory and a goal that I worked really hard for. I hadn’t scored in a long time in Serie A, so it was important to break that drought and boost my confidence for the future.

“I feel like I’ve been playing here for years, I get along really well with my teammates and we work together smoothly. That’s because there are many champions here who know how to play football, that’s why I came to Inter.”

Dzeko also spoke to DAZN and described getting to work with former Lazio coach Inzaghi, who had been his rival in the Capital for so many years.

“I was nervous before the Genoa game and frankly that was unusual for me. I’d been at San Siro many times as an opponent, so I almost went into the wrong dressing room and Ivan Perisic redirected me.

“I heard many great things about Inzaghi from the players who worked with him. I saw the way Lazio played and was certain he’d be perfectly suited to me.”
