Former Inter President Massimo Moratti can’t choose between Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku and shares his thoughts on the Serie A title race.

The Nerazzurri could climb to the top of the table if they win their game in hand against Bologna on April 27. They were the only club among the top three teams in Serie A to win last weekend. Moratti, the legendary Nerazzurri President who won the Treble in 2010, spoke to Radio Uno about the title race and agreed with Milan coach Stefano Pioli who had claimed that the top four clubs should play at the same time in the final part of the campaign.

“It would be more interesting and fair,” said Moratti.

“Everything changes every weekend, Inter made the right step and were really convincing against Verona. A few games are remaining and there is no more room for mistakes. Games against the so-called smaller teams are those that make me more worried.

“I don’t think Juventus are out of the race just yet, unfortunately,” the 76-year-old continued.

“They always find a way to win and I believe that the first three will have to pay attention to the Bianconeri, who never give up.

The Nerazzurri will sign at least one new striker next season and both Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku have been linked with a move to San Siro. Lautaro Martinez has recently signed a contract extension but is being monitored by many clubs in Europe, especially Antonio Conte’s Tottenham.

“I’d always sign Dybala, he is really strong. However, I believe Inter need a centre forward. If it’s not Lukaku, Inter will need a new one anyway,” said Moratti.

“Lautaro is a promising striker who hasn’t yet made that extra step. He has all the means to do well. I hope he can do better in the next games. Edin Dzeko has done well also without him. Joaquin Correa is a smart striker.”

Inter and Milan are considering building their new stadium outside the city of Milano, where they will not get a new one until 2027. Sesto San Giovanni is one of the options for the two clubs.

“Sesto San Giovanni is an excellent spot for a new stadium, but it would be bad for the city of Milano,” acknowledged Moratti.

“Keeping an empty monument like the Stadio Meazza there would be useless, I don’t want to defend it, but when you enter there, you feel the passion and you feel that incredible pages in football’s history were written there.”

How about José Mourinho? His Roma side is unbeaten in 11 Serie A games and are one of the Italian clubs still involved in European competitions. The Special One was in charge of Moratti’s Inter when they won the Treble in 2009-10.

“I still talk to him sometimes, I hope he can do well, except against Inter after Easter,” the former Nerazzurri president concluded.
