Paulo Dybala’s dreams of joining the Argentina squad for the World Cup may be at risk of collapse following a recent statement by coach Lionel Scaloni.

The 28-year-old Argentinian forward joined Roma in the summer on a free transfer and immediately hit the ground running in the Italian capital, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in 11 games across Serie A and the Europa League. Dybala was hit by a painful blow last month, suffering a hamstring injury that’s kept him on the sidelines ever since.

Scaloni recently gave a hint when discussing which players he’ll call up to the Argentina national team for the World Cup in Qatar, something that would’ve left Dybala concerned.

“Only those who are able to play the first match will go to Qatar. We will wait until the end to communicate the list.”

Argentina’s first match of the tournament is against Saudi Arabia on November 22, giving Dybala a few weeks to try and reach a good level of fitness.

Other doubts for the Argentina squad include Juventus’ Angel Di Maria and Villarreal’s Giovani Lo Celso, both of whom are currently battling injuries.
