Paulo Dybala’s injury record is beginning to cause consternation within Juventus circles, as this is already his fourth setback in just five months.

The Argentina international limped off during yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Venezia, just 12 minutes into the Serie A game, with yet another muscular issue in his right thigh.

More tests are required to figure out the extent of the damage this time, but the fact remains Dybala has been consistently struggling with muscular problems this season.

It started over the summer, with a left thigh concern keeping him out from July 21 to August 10.

His left thigh was injured again during the game against Sampdoria on September 26, keeping him out of big matches against Chelsea, Torino, Zenit and Roma.

Nonetheless, Dybala went to play for Argentina on international duty and sustained another calf injury in his left leg in November.

It was the right thigh that caused issues this time, limping off at half-time during the Champions League win over Malmo midweek and aggravating it just 12 minutes into the Venezia match yesterday.

As the team captain and Number 10, the player Juventus are meant to build their future around, his physical weakness is raising serious concerns.

Dybala’s current contract is due to expire at the end of this season and a new deal had been agreed worth over €10m per season in wages, but that has been put in doubt after these setbacks.

6 thought on “Dybala injury record worries Juventus”
  1. At this point, it might be better to let him go on a free and invest his wages in someone who can carry the team, which he has never done, and is fit most of the time.

What is he signs for five years and is injured more often than not?

Problem is also his position. He’s not suited for a 4-3-3, and he isn’t good enough to build the whole team around him.

  2. This is the problem with Juventus! These are the facts! Dybala is 28 years old and currently his best years are behind him, his got the stamina of a 35 year old! He’s injury prone and wants 10 million per season. Unfortunately we need to let him leave at the end of the season and build from youth. Dybala limits the system we can play and can’t press!

  3. Dybala has talent, but he is always injured. Even when is fit, he hits the ball sweetly with his left foot but a significant number of his shots fly past the post or over the bar. I really think Juve need to consider letting him leave and investing his wages in another player. The idea that he is A: going to stay fut and B: score 25-30 goals is unrealistic.
All the rival clubs in Italy and the CL have FIT strikers who can score. Sad but true.

  4. Be careful what you wish for. I can see Marotta picking him up for free. Imagine if he were to explode or rediscover his form at Inter. They do like to take your best players given a chance.

  5. Ricky, I would not be surprised if Dybala has already had talks with Marotta and is likely going there. He looks distracted in the last few games. He didn’t seem disappointed coming off at half time against Malmo and after 12 minutes on Saturday. He’s definitely leaving and to be honest, that’s not that bad a thing for the reasons already mentioned above – too slow, injury prone, does not press, not a leader, runs hot and cold, does not perform in the biggest games, and, above all else, we struggle to fit him in to a 4-3-3 system. it’s a pity we will not get a transfer fee for him, but we will at least save on his $7M wages. Soule could be the ideal replacement if Allegri shows some balls and plays him more often.

  6. @frankie, Ricky has a point but if he wants to go to the sewer club that is fine. Let us not forget that Suning’s shares have plummeted to £500 Million, representing a loss of over £2 Billion for the Zhang’s. Evergrande are over €84 billion worth of debt which they are unable to pay off due to a liquidity crisis. They had to reach agreements with their creditors which in the Zhang family’s case involved freezing the shares in Guangzhou. Let them have their Scudetto and a second star, it will soon burn out. At least Milan are aware that they cannot splash the cash. Got to live within your means which we are also guilty of sadly.
