Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku are crossing paths again after La Joya’s failed move to Manchester United in 2019. Who should Inter sign next summer?
Both players have been linked with a move to the Stadio Meazza at the end of the current campaign. Dybala will be available as a free agent at the end of the season, while Lukaku is likely to leave Chelsea after a tough campaign under Thomas Tuchel. Multiple reports in Italy suggest that the Belgium international has repeatedly asked Inter directors to return to Inter. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri no longer deny that Lukaku could return in 2022-23.
Dybala and Lukaku already crossed paths in 2019 when La Joya refused to move to Manchester United in a swap deal with Lukaku, who eventually signed for Inter, where he remained for two seasons scoring 64 goals in 95 appearances. The Nerazzurri must balance the books and will likely sell some of their players in the summer transfer window, but either the Argentinean or the Belgian striker could move to the Stadio Meazza to strengthen their attack.

A lot will depend on the future of Lautaro Martinez, who has recently extended his contract until June 2026. Despite that, his sale remains on the cards due to Inter’s financial issues. The Argentinean formed an excellent strike partnership with Lukaku this term and some Nerazzurri fans would love to see them at the Stadio Meazza again. Simone Inzaghi is also an admirer of Lukaku.
Last week, Inter legend Beppe Bergomi said that the Inter coach had told him that the 28-year-old is the best striker he’s ever coached, although he could work with him only for ten days last summer. Given Inter’s financial issues, Lukaku could only return to Inter on loan. On the other hand, Dybala would join Inter on a free transfer after the end of his contract with Juventus. Beppe Marotta has publicly denied Inter’s interest in La Joya, but the 65-year-old was the man who signed the striker at Juventus for €40m in 2015.
